Turn on Sky Broadband Shield
Broadband Shield is managed from your Sky account, not the router.
Steps:
- 1Sign in at sky.com with the account holder login.
- 2Open the Broadband Shield settings from your account or the My Sky app.
- 3Choose a rating level: PG, 13 or 18. PG is the strictest and suits younger children.
- 4Turn on safe search enforcement if offered, so Google and Bing filter explicit results automatically.
- 5Set timed settings if you want a stricter level during the day that relaxes in the evening.
- 6Save, then test from a device on your wifi.
Tip:
The rating levels mirror film-style age ratings, so set the level to your youngest regular user, then relax it by schedule in the evenings rather than turning it off.
What it covers, and what it does not
Shield protects everything on your home broadband, and nothing away from it. Phones on mobile data, and any device on a different wifi network, are not covered. Pair it with device-level settings for teenagers who are out and about.
Worth knowing
Because the account holder controls Shield, an adult can lift a block in moments when a site is wrongly caught. That makes it safe to run a stricter level than you might expect.
